About Northumbrian Quality Meats
The founder of Northumbrian Quality Meats, Steve Ramshaw is committed to all aspects of his farm and meat sales business. Steve is a dedicated conservationist, and Monkridge Hill Farm is managed with the conservation of wildlife and natural habitat as a priority.
Over recent years, many conservation schemes have been adopted and managed on the farm such as the Northumbrian Rivers Project and the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
To date this has included numerous native tree planting sites, the establishment of a pond, and wildlife encouraging enhancements to the local riverside.
These facts reflect Steve's passion and commitment to farming in a sustainable way that enhances the environment as well as producing superb quality stock. The farm has been highlighted by the EEC as a flagship example of a sustainable farming system in the UK.
Steve has also invested much time and effort in researching the eating quality of beef and has worked with numerous establishments including Newcastle University looking at the nutritional and eating quality characteristics of the stock he produces. His research has taken him to Canada and North America to look at their production systems and study the inherent tenderness and marbling characteristics of their Angus Bloodlines. To this end the herd here at Monkridge Hill Farm has been vastly improved by introducing these bloodlines.
Such is the quality that Steve and Northumbrian Quality Meats have been locally and nationally recognised by some of the nations premier chefs including Gary Rhodes, Brian Turner, The Hairy Bikers, Terry Laybourne and Rick Stein.
